Irrigated paddy fields are the rice growing areas having high yield potential. Two significant factors enhancing high yield are the well-adapted variety and appropriate management. PSL05101-93-1-32 is a promising rice line derived from the 3-way cross of PSL00508-3-1-1-4/IR66738-118-1-2//IR67966-188-2-2-1 in 2005. It has as high yield potential as 965 kg/rai (6.03 t/ha). The average grain yield is 730 kg/rai, greater than PSL2, CNT1 and RD47 varieties by 14, 13 and 7%, respectively. The maturity is 115 days after sowing by transplanting method. Plant height is 83-90 cm. This promising line is a non-glutinous long grain rice having straw-color husk. The paddy rice seed dimension is 10.4×2.61×2.10 mm in width × length × thickness, respectively. The paddy...

Total of 130 rice accessions from IRRI were tested for resistance to rice ragged stunt virus (RRSV) and rice grassy stunt virus (RGSV). The viruses were transmitted by brown planthopper (BPH) vector. Virus-carrying BPH was transferred to healthy seedlings in mylar cakes. Disease symptom was observed and scored at 30 days after inoculation. Viral infection was also detected by ELISA test. Visual score showed RRSV and RGSV infection ranged from 5.00-78.57% and 7.14-100%, respectively. The results correspond to that of ELISA test, but the ELISA test gave higher percentage of infection. Based on percentage of infection and disease index, 12 accessions were identified as resistance to RRSV; 37 accessions as moderately resistance; 25 accessions as tolerance. No...

Monitoring of rice insect pest outbreaks is the activities under the Development of Warning System for Natural Disaster and Rice Pest Outbreak Project. The purpose of this study is to survey the insect pests and their natural enemies in farmers’ fields in Pak Panang river basin and Nakhon Si Thammarat Rice Research Center during 2009 to 2013. The result showed that pest species being under surveillance were thrips (Stenchaetothrips biformis (Bagnall)), rice armyworm (Spodoptera litura (Fabricius)), brown planthopper (Nilaparvata lugens (Stål)), whitebacked planthopper (Sogatella furcifera (Horváth)), green rice leafhopper (Nephotettix spp.), rice caseworm (Nymphula depuntalis Guenée), rice leaf folder (Cnaphalocrocis medinalis Guenée), rice black bug...

Bacterial blight (BB), caused by Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae (Xoo), is one of the most serious diseases of rice in all major rice-growing areas of Thailand. The most effective approach to control BB is the use of resistant varieties which is economically feasible, an environmental-friendly control method and easy for farmers to handle. However, the selection pressure from the usage of resistant cultivars may result in mutation of the pathogen population to overcome the resistance genes. A feasible method to solve this problem is by pyramiding multiple resistance genes, which are board spectrum, into susceptible rice varieties. The aims of this research were to identify the effectiveness of board spectrum BB resistance genes and to better understand the...

CNT96024-61-1-PSL-1-2-20-2 was a short-growth duration rice variety which was suitable for irrigated area encountered flooding in raining season. This rice variety derived from three–way cross of Suphanburi 1 /IR64//CNT86074-25-9-1. CNT96024-61-1-PSL-1-2-20-2 had maturity short growth duration so that it could be early harvested at about 87 days after sowing in wet season and 96 days in dry season. It had recorded yield potential of 1,004 kg/rai with the average yields of 681 kg/rai, which was comparable with the RD41 (742 kg/ rai), but 2% higher than that of RD43 (666 kg./rai). Plant stature of this variety was 80 cm. in height. Its grain was long slender shape, 10.54 mm. in length and 2.70 mm. in width, with straw colored paddy. Its 1,000 grains weight...

ความไวต่อสารป้องกันกำจัดเชื้อรา propiconazole ของ Bipolaris oryzae สาเหตุโรคใบจุดสีน้ำตาลของข้าว ในพื้นที่นาภาคกลาง Thai Agricultural
Sith Jaisong; Rasamee Dhitikiattipong; Witchuda Rattanakarn; Wanporn Khemmuk; Kanuengnij Srivilai.
Fungicides are important tool for managing diseases in many crops. For example, managing brown spot of rice relies on the application of fungicides. The heavy use of fungicides has triggered to the development of isolates of Bipolaris oryzae (Helminthosporium oryzae) resistant to fungicides. This survey, the farmers were randomly interviewed about fungicide application, showed that most of farmers (76%) used triazole fungicide. 18, 16, 8 and 8 % used dithiocarbamat, triazolobenzo strobirulin and benzimidazole respectively. In vitro fungicide sensitivity assays using poison media technique expressed propiconazole and haxaconazole at concentration 10 ppm inhibit completely mycelium growth. This study was undertaked for evaluating the prevalence of fungicide...

Rice disease surveys had been carried out in the field of highland terrace paddy cultivation at ban na-gean, tambon na-gean, amphoe om-goy, Chiang Mai province which is in the area of highland agricultural development station project. Disease surveys have shown rice seed discoloration was the most severity and important problem in this area. The objective of this study was to test the effectiveness of antagonistic bacteria and some plant extract from tea seed to control rice seed discoloration in highland area. The experiment was designed as RCB with 6 treatments and 4 replications, using Beu Pa Doo rice variety and transplanting method in wet season 2008 and 2009. The treatments were foliar spray with bacterial suspension of antagonistic bacteria Bacillus...
